Professor Nick Hadley has just been re-elected to his position as US CMS Collaboration Board Chair. This board counts its membership from 49 US Institutions on CMS and over 600 scientists, and plays a critical role in shaping the direction of the US contingent at CMS (the US has the single largest national representation on CMS). The position also comes with the title of the Country Representative from the United States to the CMS Management Board; therefore Dr. Hadley will represent the US in running CMS at CERN.

Professor Bill Dorland will give his Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Lecture, The End of the Oil Economy, on November 16, 2010. The Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Program, established in 1978, honors a small number of faculty members each year who have demonstrated notable success in  both scholarship and teaching. By honoring the Distinguished-Scholar Teacher with this prestigious award, we reaffirm our commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship.

The American Physical Society has awarded Jim Drake the 2010 James Clerk Maxwell Prize for Plasma Physics. The prize is the highest honor bestowed to plasma physicists by the APS. His citation and prize will be presented at the annual meeting of the Division of Plasma Physics, November 8-12, 2010 in Chicago, Illinois.
