Speaker: Isaac Kim (IBM Research)

Title: Global symmetries and protected quantum gates

Abstract: I will discuss an exactly solvable model that is locally equivalent to the toric code model almost everywhere, yet possesses an unusual global Z_3 symmetry. I will explain the physical origin of this symmetry, and discuss how it can be used to perform a number of different protected gates. (Based on a joint work with Ted Yoder)
