Title: Simple Holographic Models of Black Hole Evaporation

Abstract: Recent work has shown that the quantum extremal surface formula is able to reproduce a unitary Page curve for some evaporating black holes, as well as other related phenomena.  One puzzling aspect of these calculations however is that their bulk side relies on Hawking's picture of black hole evaporation, in which the radiation is mixed!  Why should a calculation which assumes the radiation is mixed lead to a Page curve where it is pure? In this talk, after reviewing these calculations I will present two simplified holographic models which illustrate this tension and show how it can be resolved.  Based on work with Chris Akers and Netta Engelhardt.
