Neurons as Feedback Controllers: Integrating Physics with Neuroscience and AI

Traditional models of neuron function in Neuroscience and AI, grounded in outdated views of brain function, fail to account for feedback loops and complex dynamics in biological neural networks. We propose a shift towards viewing neurons as feedback controllers, leveraging the Direct Data-Driven Control (DD-DC) methodology for a biologically plausible implementation. Our DD-DC neuron models explain multiple neurophysiological observations thus validating our theory. Framing neurons as dynamic controllers presents new challenges for dynamical systems theory, heralding an interdisciplinary exploration of brain function.
