2021 Physics Summer Camp Workshops Update and Ready to Go!

The University of Maryland, Department of Physics is committed to the health and safety of our community, therefore, we will be hosting virtual activities this summer. Below, please see details and registration information for our 2021 virtual summer programming!

During the month of July, we are excited to offer virtual, camp-based activities! Grounded in our signature summer programs, the Amazing Science Discovery Camp, which will have a Harry Potter theme this summer, and The Physics of Quidditch, which will feature camper approved themes and components adapted to a virtual environment. The Advanced Summer Girls program will be back for a one-week virtual experience.  Each program will be run via Zoom and students will need to connect to the internet each day.  Please note, registration will be limited to facilitate the best possible experience for the students and the fee is $60.00 and will be requested after acceptance.

Middle School Level:

The Physics of Quidditch Virtual Summer Camp Workshop is a one week virtual program that will meet for two hours each morning. Campers will participate in exciting activities to learn about how the magic in Harry's world relates to the physics and technology of our own world. Campers will be sorted into houses and participate in fan favorite activities like building their own physics demos, the scientific method of "tea leaf reading," and Harry Potter trivia. Programs will run in the morning for five consecutive days from 10:00am-12:00pm.

This program will run virtually July 12-16.

Elementary School Level:

This year, we will be offering a new program in which the Physics of Quidditch Summer Camp meets the Amazing Science Discovery Camp in a one week virtual workshop.  Activities and lessons will be based on our beloved summer programs and will be designed for elementary school students (rising 3rd-5th graders)!  Each day, we will dive into a fascinating field of STEM with the fantastic world of Harry Potter as our guide.  Together, we will learn about physics, biology, engineering, nanotechnology, math, and chemistry!  The program will run in the morning for five consecutive days from 10:00am-12:00pm.

This program will run virtually July 19-23.

High School Level:

The Advanced Summer Girls program will run virtually July 26-30.

Please note, we are determining whether we will be able to hold our high school camps virtually.
